Alberta Health Services is committed to transparency and has complied with legislation to disclose compensation for employees receiving over the 2017 threshold amount of $127,765 in compensation as outlined in the . The threshold for the previous disclosure, reflecting compensation for 2016 was $126,375, and in 2015 was $125,000.
The compensation information released is total annual compensation, which includes base salary, overtime, shift premiums, weekend premiums, on-call pay, sick pay, vacation pay, benefits and relevant severance. This disclosure also includes AHS board members, regardless of the amount of compensation, severance or benefits they have received in the past year.
AHS is a large organization — the largest health care organization in the country. The AHS disclosure list includes approximately 2.2 per cent of AHS staff, or about 2,200 employees. Approximately 43 per cent of this group is unionized staff, including registered nurses, paramedics, technicians, psychologists, mental health therapists and pharmacists, among others. 57 per cent is non-union staff, including senior leaders, medical leaders, unit managers, clinical leads, pathologists, dentists, physicians, nurse practitioners, and lab scientists.
