The safari begins in Johannesburg where you will collect your vehicle and do your shopping en route. Your adventure will take you to the Eastern Highlands of the Waterberg Biosphere for your first night in an intimate bush lodge in a private game reserve. The following day you have an easy drive into the Soutpansberg where you will be met by your guide and given a tour of a specialised game breeding project of rare Sable etc. and your first completely private wild camping night under a magnificent canopy of Southern stars.
Days 1-2: Lodging and Camping in Waterberg and Soutpansberg Biosphere
Days 3-5: Kruger National ParkAfter a leisurely breakfast you’ll head out to the Northern most tip of the world renowned Kruger National Park. Once you have reached the Kruger, you will meet Africa’s unique wild animals in their natural habitat and experience the Big Five, and the Little Five, in 22 million hectares of undisturbed pristine natural African bush. Spend the next three days exploring the back roads of Kruger, overnighting in safe bush camps as you head south towards Swaziland – travelling through Kruger from top to bottom!
Transit out of Kruger Park and a short stop in Malalane to top up your pantry and curios. From here you’ll enjoy the very interesting Geo Trail as you head into Swaziland for your next night stop at private game reserve camp. Flora includes the massive riverine forests with towering sycamore figs and wild date palms, rocky cliffs, knobthorn savannah, acacia bushveld and open grasslands. A number of unique species are found in the area. The views around the reserve are diverse and breathe-taking.
Day 6-7: Swaziland and Mozambique
Daytime game viewing includes giraffe, kudu, wildebeest, waterbuck, zebra, impala, bushbuck, nyala, duiker, warthog, jackal, crocodile and more. Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the sunset period when nature draws her second breath, or take a night drive with a spotlight and experience the excitement of seeing the nocturnal species including hyena, civet, genet, jackal, honey-badger, serval, bush pig or something else totally unexpected!
Day 7 takes you into Mozambique for a swim in the Indian Ocean and lunch on the beach. After lunch you’ll exit Mozambique into South Africa and arrive at a Kosi Bay Campsite nestled amongst 100 year old Waterberry trees.
Days 7-9: Mozambique and Kosi Bay.
Kosi Bay in the far North Eastern corner of KwaZulu-Natal forms part of the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park - the first natural World Heritage Site in South Africa to be accorded this distinction. Kosi Bay epitomises the incredible splendour of untouched Africa at its most pristine, as are its people, resources, ecology and culture.
Kosi Bay is a system of an estuary with 4 lakes ranging from freshwater to saline that feed into the ocean.
Age old traditions passed down by generations of tribal existence still continue to this day - ancient fishing kraals erected and tendered by the resourceful Tonga people. Kosi Bay has been described as “A wonderful aquarium and the most gorgeous aviary”.
Spend two days exploring the lake system by boat and land with a tour guide, taking breaks to swim in the estuary.
Day 8 – 9: Kosi Bay
